Lisa Lounsbury

As the Executive Director of Art Lab Rx, my goal is to increase the awareness of the transformational power of art therapy in my community and beyond. While establishing my practice, I noticed adequate space and transportation were significant barriers to providing quality art therapy services. This eventually led to our mobile mental health facility “Maggie” which is used to provide a safe, secure space for individuals and groups to create, explore and transform. My strength is in collaborating with creative partners, such as hospitals, schools, and businesses, to custom-design wellness programs and/or art therapy groups that meet their specific organizational needs.

As a Board Certified Art Therapist, I combine Adlerian Psychology, Positive Psychology, and a multicultural, person-centered approach when serving the mental health needs of people who are experiencing substance use disorders, trauma, grief/loss, as well as anxiety and mood disorders. My aim is to create an active, collaborative therapeutic relationship by guiding clients through the creative self-expression process to explore concerns, reduce symptoms, and make meaning of circumstances.

As a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor, I support new professional therapists in the mental health field by providing guidance in both the clinical and administrative aspects of the therapy practice. In a safe, encouraging environment they can discuss and explore their ideas, case studies, therapy session methods, ethical boundaries, and licensure requirements. As a business owner with multiple years of art therapy experience within a variety of organizations and venues, I give them guidance on the administrative aspects of the therapy practice.
